Tips for new helpers: build a profile customers trust
Becoming a helper is a flexible way to earn by doing work you are already good at — driving, shopping, caring for elders, walking pets, teaching technology or simply being good company. But when customers browse helpers, they are deciding whom to trust with their family, home or time. Your profile and your first few bookings matter enormously. Here is how to make a strong start.
Choose services that match your real strengths
It is tempting to tick every service available. Resist. Customers trust specialists more than people who seem to do everything. Choose two to four services where you have genuine experience:
- Drivers: list the vehicle types you are licensed and comfortable to drive, including automatic cars.
- Elder companionship or caretaking: mention experience with older relatives, patience and any first-aid training.
- Tech help for seniors: mention the phones and apps you know well.
- Pet care: mention the animals you have cared for and comfort with large dogs.
- Professional services such as physiotherapy or counselling: list your qualification and registration clearly.
Write a profile that sounds like you
A good profile description is short, specific and warm. Cover:
- who you are and where you are based;
- your relevant experience, in specific terms;
- languages you speak;
- what customers can expect from you.
Compare "I am hard working and honest" with "I've driven my family's car in Pune traffic for eight years, I'm comfortable with automatics, and I speak Marathi, Hindi and English." The second is far more convincing.
Use a clear, friendly photo
Use a recent photo of your face, well lit, against a plain background, and smiling. No sunglasses, no group photos and no heavy filters. Customers want to recognise you at the door.
Complete verification promptly
On Nesttr, helpers complete identity and address verification before accepting bookings. Completing it quickly means you can start sooner, and it is the first signal of trust customers look for.
Set availability you can keep
Only open the hours you can reliably work. Cancelling a confirmed booking — especially at short notice — hurts the customer and your ratings. It is better to start with fewer hours and add more later.
Communicate like a professional
- Confirm the booking details a day before: address, time and the task.
- If you are running late, inform the customer early, with a realistic arrival time.
- Ask questions at the start rather than guessing.
- Keep your phone charged and on during the booking.
Do the small things well
Ratings usually come down to details: arriving on time, being polite, following instructions, keeping things tidy and checking before you leave whether anything else is needed within the booked time. For elder care, patience and kindness matter more than speed.
Know your boundaries
- Stay within the booked service and time. If a customer asks for extra work, discuss it and agree on the extra time before doing it.
- Never ask for or accept bank PINs, OTPs or passwords. Politely refuse if a customer offers them.
- Companionship services on Nesttr are strictly platonic. If any customer makes an inappropriate request, decline, leave if you feel unsafe and report it.
- If you ever feel unsafe, leave and call 112 in an emergency, then contact Nesttr support through the Contact page.

Grow over time
Every completed booking with a good rating makes the next booking easier to win. Ask happy customers if they would like to book again. Keep your profile updated as you gain experience or training. Many helpers find that a handful of regular customers provides steady weekly income.

Common questions
How many services should I offer as a new helper?
Two to four services where you have real experience is usually best. Customers trust focused, specific profiles more than ones that list everything.
How do I get my first booking?
Complete your profile and verification, use a clear photo, write a specific description and keep your availability accurate. Respond quickly and professionally when requests arrive.
What should I do if a customer asks for something outside the booking?
Politely explain what the booking covers. If it is a reasonable task, agree on extra time first; if it is inappropriate or unsafe, decline and report it.
